"I am a new subscriber, as well as a new user of covered calls as an investment vehicle in their own right, although I have occasionally used them in the past for stock that I owned. Let me say at the outset that I have been very impressed with your Newsletters, and especially with your Covered Call Educator series. You obviously know whereof you speak, and your analyses and suggestions have been right on the mark, based on my somewhat imperfect knowledge of the markets.

What has really shocked me, however, is my first year's experience using covered calls as an investment strategy. Suffice it to say, my covered call account (starting with $15,000 in cash) was up 200% in the space of a year, writing about 2-3 covered calls per month, and staggered to expire over successive months. In about 30 trades, I only had three losers, one of $62, one of $438, and one of about $1,075. All of these came on stocks that were called, and which were written pretty close to the strike price, so that the commissions overcame the profit on the stock itself when it was called--a good lesson in its own right.

I would never in my wildest dreams have expected this kind of return, especially using a supposedly conservative covered call strategy of buying 1,000 shares of a particular stock, and then selling 10 calls on the stock. Virtually all of my stocks were under $20/share, which also helped increase the return, and all were purchased on margin (also helping the bottom line significantly), while leaving a fair amount of cash ($5,000-12,000 in the account at all times) to cover possible margin calls. I never had more than about 5-6 stock positions open at any one time, and as each one expired, I either re-wrote the calls on the same stocks (obviously saving commission charges on the stock itself), or if called, shifted to a new stock usually. Several of the stocks doubled, obviously not helping me much in terms of the covered call account, but hey, who's to complain about tripling one's money in the space of a year??"
